A look at the latest news and rumours from across Carlisle United’s division…

BLUEBIRDS SWOOP FOR DEFENDER

Barrow are set to bring in Bohemians defender Rory Feely.

The 25-year-old looks set to join the south Cumbrians in the January transfer window.

After reports in Ireland linked Feely with Pete Wild’s side, the Barrow manager confirmed on BBC Radio Cumbria that the Bluebirds were aiming to seal a deal for the defender.

“We’ve been talking to Rory, he has been over, and hopefully there’s something to say on that in the next seven days,” Wild said of the defender, who is the younger brother of former Carlisle United loan defender Kevin Feely.

BANTAMS NEW BOY DELIGHTS HUGHES

Another Bohemians defender on the move is Ciaran Kelly, who has joined Bradford City.

The 24-year-old has linked up with the Bantams and looks set to figure for his new club in the new year.

“He is a player who has attracted a lot of interest from teams at this level and above, but had his heart set on joining us here at Bradford City,” said Hughes, whose side visit Carlisle on Boxing Day.

“He is fiercely competitive but also fits in well to the style of play we have adopted.”

EX-EVERTON MAN JOINS DALE

Rochdale have added a former Everton frontman to their coaching staff.

Phil Jevons has linked up with manager Jim Bentley at the League Two strugglers.

He played with and under Bentley at Morecambe. “Jevo is a fantastic person and a great professional,” Bentley told Rochdale’s website.

MCKIRDY ‘CRIED FOR SEVEN HOURS’

Former Carlisle United man Harry McKirdy “cried for seven hours” after his penalty miss in last season’s play-offs.

McKirdy’s former Swindon Town team-mate Jack Payne revealed the forward’s reaction after his miss in the semi-final against Port Vale.

Speaking to The Real EFL, Payne said: “He came back to mine that night…we sat up in my lounge all night until it got light outside with a glass of wine”

“He cried his eyes out for about seven hours straight.

“My Mum called me [the next day] and  she was like, ‘How are you feeling?’

“She said, ‘How’s Harry?’ He’s sat next to me…and he’s started crying again.“

LEADERS’ BOSS HAILS LATEST WIN

Leyton Orient’s latest victory, which put them seven points clear at the top of League Two, pleased boss Richie Wellens.

He said a professional display led to a 2-0 win over Sutton United in one of just two fourth-tier games to beat the freeze on Saturday.

“It was a professional performance overall from us,” Wellens said.

“I don’t think we were sharp the first 20 minutes and didn’t show cleverness, but you always want to win the game and we showed the professionalism to get the victory.”

SADDLERS SEAL GROUND DEAL

Walsall have confirmed a deal to buy their own ground.

The Saddlers have completed a purchase of the Poundland Bescot Stadium, which they have rented for 30 years.

“Today is a landmark day in the life of the football club,” co-chairman Benjamin Boycott said.

“As of today, the club owns its own stadium after decades of tenancy.”
