Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson's long-term Manchester United future is the subject of fresh speculation.

The Whitehaven star is currently on a season-long loan with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

And fresh reports have suggested he could be up for a permanent move away from the Old Trafford club at the end of the season.

Henderson was critical of his treatment at Man Utd in a radio interview early in the campaign.

Now a report by 90min says the ex-Carlisle United academy keeper "does not want to return" to Man Utd.

It could see the 25-year-old up for grabs at the end of the season, with a number of clubs along with Forest likely to be on alert is Henderson is available for a permanent move.

Carlisle will also be keeping tabs on the situation if a possible big-money departure is eventually on the cards.

The Blues would be entitled to sell-on proceeds under the deal that took him from Carlisle to Man Utd back in 2011.

United co-owner Steven Pattison, though, said in the summer that it would be more lucrative for the Blues should Henderson remain at Man Utd and play regularly for their first team.

Speaking at a fans' forum, Pattison said: “When you talk about football fortune…when Dean was in the Man United team, we [would] get so much every ten games.

“It would probably work out better if he played for Man United for the next five years, or whatever.

“Unfortunately, whatever happened – he got injured and the other fella got back in, the Spanish guy who’s not very good. I don’t think he is.

“So we need Dean to be sold…[or], in my opinion, actually in the Man United team."

Forest resume their Premier League campaign against Man Utd on December 27.

Before then, they take on Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday.
