Paul Simpson has missed out on the League Two manager of the month award for November.

The prize has instead gone to AFC Wimbledon’s Johnnie Jackson.

Carlisle United boss Simpson was on a four-man shortlist after an unbeaten month in the league with the Blues.

A win and two draws – including a superb 4-1 victory at Salford City – saw the Blues manager recognised.

But Wimbledon’s improving form under Jackson saw the 40-year-old take the SkyBet award.

The Dons took seven points from their nine league games in November, including wins over Tranmere Rovers and leaders Leyton Orient.

The south London club, who have climbed to 11th in the table after a slow start, did not concede a single league goal during the month.

Crewe Alexandra’s Lee Bell and Northampton Town’s Jon Brady were the other contenders.

Jackson said: “It’s a reward for everyone at the football club. We had a great run in November. It’s been a great team effort from my staff and players to get us to where we are – they’ve been outstanding.

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “A sturdy defence can go a long way in Sky Bet League Two and Johnnie Jackson’s organisation of his Wimbledon side exemplified the fact perfectly during the month of November.

A Cumbrian club boasts the latest League Two player of the month, meanwhile.

Barrow forward Billy Waters, who is due to face the Blues this weekend, is the November winner.

The judges’ citation said of the Bluebirds player: “His four goals in three games may have been from a total distance of only 18 yards, but they showcased perfectly his predatory instincts, turning home loose balls in the box, including a brilliant volley on the turn in his hat-trick against Colchester.”

Waters beat Bradford City’s ex-Carlisle and Barrow striker Andy Cook to the award, with Crewe Alexandra keeper Arthur Okonkwo and Leyton Orient defender Omar Beckles also shortlisted.

Barrow manager Pete Wild said: “It’s a great achievement for Bill and a well-deserved award. I’m really pleased for him.

“He’s now bringing goals to his game and re-establishing himself back in League Two, evidenced by winning this award. I know the group will be really pleased for Billy too.”
