Cumbrian badminton star Lauren Smith returned from injury to add another medal to her career haul.
Smith, back from more than a month out with an ankle injury, partnered Chloe Birch in the women’s doubles at the Welsh International Championships.
The Longtown player and her partner got past Sweden’s Clara Nistad and Jessica Silvennoinen, England’s Estelle van Leeuwen and Lisa Curtin and Denmark’s Clara Graversen and Natasja Anthonisen on their way to the final.
But they narrowly missed out on gold as they were beaten 9-21 21-14 21-9 by French duo Margot Lambert and Anne Tran.
The silver medal for the English pair, though, marked a positive return to international action for Olympian Smith, who was sidelined in October when she injured her ankle at the Dutch Open.
