Carlisle-born prospect Joe White is part of Newcastle United's mid-season training camp in Saudi Arabia.

The young Cumbrian midfielder was included in the travelling party as the club continue preparations for the return of Premier League action after the World Cup.

White, 20, is one of a number of academy graduates with Eddie Howe's squad in Riyadh.

It underlines his potential at the north-east club, with White having starred for Newcastle's Under-23s this season.

He could be a contender for a loan move in January to gain first-team experience.

In the meantime, he is training with stars such as Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin, Sven Botman, Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles in Saudi Arabia, whose Public Investment Fund own Newcastle.

White will be hoping to be involved in two friendlies Newcastle have lined up, against Al Hilal on Thursday and back at St James' Park against Rayo Vallecano on December 17.

Newcastle Under-23 coach Elliott Dickman told the Chronicle that the training camp in Saudi was an "invaluable" experience for White and his young peers.

"It's a good opportunity for these lads to hopefully make an impression in a positive way," he said.

"They've been given a chance to go, they've got to take it and make sure they impress the manager and the rest of his staff."

White's form this season saw him shortlisted for the premier League 2 player of the month award for October.

The promising player, who is the grandson of the late former Carlisle United player, physio and coach and Workington Reds manager Peter Hampton, has also spoken of his keenness to make a loan move, having been with Hartlepool United last season.
