Former Carlisle United goalkeeper Adam Collin has stepped up to a senior coaching position at one of the Blues' League Two rivals.

The Cumbrian has been appointed head of goalkeeping at Mansfield Town.

Ex-Carlisle and Workington Reds man Collin has been with the Stags for the last year as head of academy goalkeeping.

The 37-year-old will now head the entire goalkeeping department at the east midlands club.

Collin, from Great Salkeld, hung up his gloves last December to focus on his coaching career.

He has his own goalkeeping academy, AC1 Goalkeeping, and joined Mansfield last November after a spell with non-league club Basford United.

Collin has already been working with Mansfield's senior keepers Christy Pym, Scott Flinders and Owen Mason as part of Nigel Clough's backroom team at the One Call Stadium.

Collin's playing career saw a youth spell with Blackburn Rovers before a move to Newcastle United, where he came through the youth ranks and into the professional scene, understudying the likes of Shay Given and Steve Harper.

After being released, he made 220 appearances in a five-year spell with Workington, before returning to the professional game with Carlisle in 2009.

His first spell with the Blues under Greg Abbott included two Wembley appearances, including a clean sheet and victory in the 2011 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final – part of a 159-appearance United stint until 2013.

After spells with Rotherham United, Aberdeen and Notts County, he rejoined Carlisle in 2018 and made 91 more appearances for the club

After a loan spell with Aberdeen and a permanent switch to Notts County, he rejoined Carlisle in 2018 and made 91 more appearances for the club under John Sheridan, Steven Pressley and Chris Beech, captaining the club in the 2019/20 season.

He later played for Kettering and Basford as he moved from playing to coaching.

Collin and Mansfield will visit Brunton Park in League Two on February 14 next year.
