Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has praised Cumbrian keeper Dean Henderson after claiming a much-needed clean sheet.

Henderson impressed in Forest’s 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

The Whitehaven star made a number of saves as the Premier League’s bottom club picked up a point.

And Cooper said: “Dean made a great save. I’m really pleased for him to get the clean sheet and he’s worked hard for that.

“I’m so happy that he’s with us.”

Henderson is on a season-long loan from Manchester United and has so far made 11 appearances for Cooper’s side.

Tuesday's game was his second shut-out in that period.

Speaking to Amazon Prime after the Brighton game, the former Carlisle United academy keeper said: "Every point is so valuable, especially to keep a clean sheet. Every boy out there was a warrior tonight. They ran their socks off.

"I'm so proud of the boys. We've conceded a lot of goals this season. The manager has talked about stopping that and building from a foundation.

"Last two games I've not been busy so to get a clean sheet is massive for confidence. For sure we're moving in the right direction.

“We're a better unit, working hard as a team and if we keep doing that goals will come."

Henderson's fellow Cumbrian Jarrad Branthwaite was an unused substitute for PSV Eindhoven in their Europa League defeat to Arsenal on Thursday night.

A Granit Xhaka goal gave the Gunners a 1-0 win in the group stage game at the Emirates Stadium.
