Doncaster Rovers - who sacked their manager after defeat to Carlisle United - have appointed a new boss.

Danny Schofield has been appointed to replace Gary McSheffrey at the helm.

The former Huddersfield boss takes charge of League Two's 12th-placed club on a one-year rolling contract.

It sees Donny move quickly after Monday's dismissal of McSheffrey following their 3-0 defeat at Brunton Park.

Schofield's first game in charge will be at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Doncaster said the 42-year-old "impressed with clear plans for a style of play and development of players, as well as inspiring faith that he can guide the squad towards achieving the goals for the current campaign."

Speaking on the club website, the new boss said: "This is a new challenge and one I’m ready to give my all to in order to make it a success.

“I’m a Doncaster lad. I’m from the area so I know this place well. I know the supporters. I know what the ambitions of the club are.

“It seemed a really good fit for me and one I really think can work.”

Doncaster head of football operations James Coppinger added: “It was important for the club to act swiftly and get the right man and we’re delighted with his appointment."

There could be another managerial move in League Two today, meanwhile.

The South Wales Argus report that ex-Mansfield Town and Bristol Rovers boss Graham Coughlan is in line to become the new manager at Newport County.
