Carlisle United are assessing both Fin Back and Omari Patrick after the duo went off with hamstring injuries at Hartlepool.

Wing-back Back and two-goal sub Patrick failed to complete the game at Victoria Park after suffering similar problems.

Manager Paul Simpson hopes the tightness both players felt was not a sign of anything more serious and that he can avoid adding the pair to the recent litany of injuries at Brunton Park.

“That’s what we’re hoping,” he said.

“Ross [Goodwin, United’s physio] will assess them and touch base with them [today], and we’ll see what they’re like on Monday.

“Whether or not we need to go down the line of having a scan, we’ll wait and see.

“I’m really hoping it’s not too serious and it might just be some sort of neural issue that we’ll see when we get them back in.”

Nottingham Forest loanee Back had to be replaced in the 61st minute while attacker Patrick, having come on in the 67th, was taken off in added time, having scored United’s second and third goals in the 3-1 win.

“It’s a worry, yes,” Simpson admitted. “Omari said it’s the same as he felt last time, which wasn’t bad, but we’ve just got to see how he is.

“He’s trained now for two weeks, and last week we hardly did any training because I wanted them to have energy and to be fresh for this game.

“Fin has not had a single problem with muscles at any stage of his career, so he’s told me, so we’ll see.

“They both said they just felt it tighten, it wasn’t a case of it popping. When it goes, it goes with a bang, I’m told – I’m fortunate that I don’t think I was quick enough to pull my hamstring.

“I don’t think it was a serious one but we have to see how they are.”
