Carlisle United will be in a three-club battle to quality for the Papa John's Trophy second round.

It follows Manchester United Under-21s' victory at Barrow which takes them through as group winners.

A late goal from Alejandro Garnacho gave the visitors a 2-1 win at Holker Street.

That sees the Red Devils' side on six points with one game to go, with Fleetwood Town, Barrow and Carlisle all on two points.

United head to Barrow on Tuesday, October 18.

Victory would give Paul Simpson's side a good chance of progressing in the controversial competition - unless Fleetwood beat Man Utd Under-21s and retain a goal difference advantage over Carlisle.

Their goal difference is currently two better than United's.

Barrow have an identical record to the Blues.

A draw could also be enough provided Carlisle win on penalties to bag a bonus point, and Fleetwood lose to Man Utd U21s.

Defeat, or a draw followed by penalties defeat, would see the Blues knocked out no matter what happens in the Fleetwood v Man Utd U21 game.

And Fleetwood win could still consign both Carlisle and Barrow to elimination whatever the outcome in the all-Cumbrian showdown, depending on the goal difference situation.

A crowd of 2,966 watched the Barrow-Man Utd U21 game.

But there were some low attendances in some other group games across the country.

Just 838 watched Gillingham against Brighton's Under-21s.

A crowd of 832 was at Harrogate Town's game against Everton Under-21s.

And 880 were at Colchester United's match against Charlton Athletic.
