History will be made tonight when two Cumbrian clubs meet in league action for the first time.

Penrith's home clash with Carlisle City in Northern League One is the inaugural meeting between the sides in league competition.

The game at the Leo Group Stadium (7.45pm kick-off) pits Darren Edmondson's hosts against Jim Nichols' visitors.

The derby encounters were set up by City's promotion from Division Two last season, when they dramatically won the title on the final day.

Penrith, meanwhile, were given a reprieve from relegation despite finishing second bottom of Division One last term, following a reorganisation of steps five and six of the National League system.

City have made much the better start to the 2022/23 campaign and sit eighth after 12 games.

Penrith are second bottom.

City warmed up for the all-Cumbrian clash with a 2-2 draw at West Auckland Town on Saturday thanks to goals from Callum Birdsall and Jordan Irving.

Penrith, meanwhile, went down to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of fourth-placed Guisborough Town.

Entry at Frenchfield Park tonight is £6 for adults and £3 for those aged 65+.
