Carlisle United are praying Callum Guy is not the latest player to join their injury list.

The Blues midfielder went off in the closing stages of the 0-0 draw with Crewe Alexandra.

Guy hurt his ankle late in the game and will now be assessed.

Manager Paul Simpson, speaking after the game, said it was too early to know how serious it was.

“All I know is that he rolled his ankle. I’ve no idea how bad it is. He wasn’t in the treatment room at the end, he was in the changing room, and I think that’s a good sign,” he said.

“I’m hoping it’s just a twist. I was quite lucky in my career that one of my worst injuries was my ankle – it’s horrible when you first do it but then sometimes it settles down.

“Touch wood it’s going to do that, settles down and he’s able to train this week. We’ll see how he goes.”

The latest injury concern came amid some brighter news on the fitness front, with Omari Patrick and Morgan Feeney both back in the squad to face Crewe, and Ryan Edmondson and Ben Barclay getting closer to involvement.

Forward Patrick came off the bench early in the second half while defender Feeney was an unused sub, both players back from hamstring injuries.

Simpson said he hopes striker Edmondson will be the next player back, and said the ex-Leeds United man could be available for next weekend’s trip to Hartlepool United.

“That might be a little bit early for Ben Barclay, because he’s been out a long time now, but Ryan Edmondson, with a week’s training, might be ready,” United’s boss said.

“He might come into my thinking. We’ll see how he goes over the week.”
