Paul Simpson says Carlisle United’s run of injuries in the early stages of this season is simply a case of bad luck.

The manager says he and his colleagues have tried to look deeper into reasons why the Blues have seen so many players sidelined.

But he said the string of injuries is simply a consequence of the modern game – and pointed out that many other clubs are facing similar problems.

Simpson was questioned about the issue by BBC Radio Cumbria at his latest press conference.

Asked if he had diagnosed a reason behind United’s injury run, he said: “We’ve sat and talked about it, looked at it, looked at all the physical data, looked at the work we’re doing.

“As basic as it sounds sometimes it’s just unlucky and there’s not a lot you can do.

“We’re not the only club in the country having it – teams up and down the country are really struggling with injuries.

“I think it’s the intensity of the games, the speed the games come round, but it’s where we are with English football. We have to get on with it.

“If I didn’t like it I’d get out of it. We have to deal with it, players understand it, and there’s no blame culture.”

United boss Simpson has doubts over Omari Patrick and Kristian Dennis ahead of tomorrow’s game at Newport County.

Carlisle has also seen injuries to Jamie Devitt, Tobi Sho-Silva, Ryan Edmondson, Ben Barclay, Brennan Dickenson, Morgan Feeney and Taylor Charters since pre-season.

Feeney and Charters are back in action with the others at different stages of their recovery, along with long-term absentees Joel Senior and Josh Dixon.

“I can assure you we’ve looked at everything we do and trying to work out if there’s any sort of common denominator, but there isn’t unfortunately,” Simpson said.

“It’s just bad luck and sometimes circumstances.”
