It’s always particularly enjoyable when a rare goalscorer comes along – especially when they end a drought in style.
After Callum Guy’s superb first Football League goal for Carlisle United on Saturday, what about some of the other less likely Blues scorers over the years?
Here are eight for starters - let us know any of your other favourites in the comments...
1 JOE JOYCE
The video footage doesn’t quite capture just how potty Brunton Park went as this flew in.
Joyce, a vastly experienced right-back not exactly known for popping up with beautifully-hit long-range volleys, did this in an epic Autoglass Trophy northern final against Huddersfield Town in 1994.
It remains some fans’ favourite United goal – Joyce’s only strike in a blue shirt.
2 PAUL ARNISON
If you’re going to score for a club just the once, do it like this.
Paul Arnison admitted he was being a tad ambitious when he demanded a pass from Paul Simpson as United won a free-kick against Torquay in 2003.
He needn’t have worried. What a hit.
3 LEE MADDISON
A left-back with one goal to his Carlisle United name - and, like Joyce and Arnison, Maddison’s solitary Blues strike in 2003 was an absolute peach.
A beautiful, curling effort from long-distance, soaring over Brunton Park’s bobbly pitch and…well, just watch it.
4 MIKE GRAHAM
Full-back Graham was seldom known for his scoring, so what on earth was he doing as United’s furthest man forward in this 4-1 raid at Peterborough United in 1989?
And what, for that matter, was he doing leaping to convert this treat of a diving header?
5 RICHARD PROKAS
The midfielder was not, it's safe to say, in Mick Wadsworth’s 1994/5 title-winning team for his goals. Which made it all the more surprising and fun when the young Cumbrian grafter popped up to open the scoring in this victory at Mansfield Town.
Just look at his face!
6 LUKE JOYCE
Sixty games had passed since Joyce had rejoined Carlisle for a second spell, and not a sniff of a goal.
...until the ball broke to the midfielder miles from goal against Crawley in 2016, and he put his laces through it like this. Lovely.
7 PETER KEEN
A launched kick, a bounce off a splashy wet pitch, the opposition keeper backpedalling in vain - and a goal for Carlisle’s goalkeeper at Blackpool in 2010.
Which reminds me…
8 JIMMY GLASS
