Carlisle United striker Sam Fishburn has headed back out on loan – to Morpeth Town.

The 18-year-old has joined the Northern Premier League Premier Division side for the rest of the season.

Fishburn is available to make his debut for the Craik Park club against Ashton United tomorrow.

The move comes days after the teenager saw a previous loan spell at Blyth Spartans cut short.

Fishburn’s team-mates at Morpeth will include the former Carlisle midfielder Liam Noble.

Blues boss Paul Simpson has urged Fishburn to make the most of his opportunity at the north east non-league club.

“He has to go and take that chance,” Simpson said.

“They’re a club who’ve been keen on him since the start of pre-season – they enquired a couple of months ago.

“We felt Blyth was a better option at the time. But it’s another opportunity.

“He’s very fortunate there’s a club wants to take him again and get him playing football, and it’s up to him to get his head down and do everything he possibly can to make it a successful one.”

Fishburn’s move to link up with the Highwaymen – who sit ninth in their division – is the third of his young career, after a spell with Lancaster City last season.

The former youth team star scored for United’s reserves against Fleetwood Town last week.

But he was short of starting opportunities during his loan with National League North club Blyth, with Simpson saying Fishburn must work hard to get back to the form he showed last season.

He said Blyth “weren’t particularly happy” with what Fishburn had produced and said he did not blame them for not picking him.

Simpson said he had spoken to Fishburn and added: “He needs to show everybody he can step up and get back up to the level of player he was before Christmas of last year, when he went to Lancaster and banged goals in left, right and centre, he was involved in our first team…he’s got to get back to that.

“All young players go through peaks and troughs in their career. He has to make sure this is a little trough he’s going to get himself out of.”

The loan move includes a standard recall option after the first 28 days.
