Dean Henderson's odds of making the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar have been cut.

The Cumbrian has returned to Premier League prominence through his loan move to Nottingham Forest from Manchester United.

And while Henderson's chances of being on the plane for Qatar may currently be an outside bet, the Whitehaven star's prospects are improving.

His return to first-team football sees Henderson 11/8 with Sky Bet to make Gareth Southgate's final squad for the winter tournament.

He is currently behind No1 Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope in the reckoning.

But his form for Forest could put Henderson in contention if any of that trio miss out.

And a current injury to Pickford could see the Cumbrian back in Southgate's squad consideration for forthcoming England internationals.

Everton's former Carlisle United loanee Pickford and Arsenal keeper Ramsdale are 1/20 to occupy World Cup squad places, with Newcastle United man Pope 4/9.

Henderson's chances are rated better than other goalkeepers such as Sam Johnstone.

Southgate is expected to announce his World Cup squad on October 21, before whittling it down to a final 26-man group for Qatar.

The FIFA deadline for final squad submissions is November 13.

Henderson has one full England cap, which he earned aganst the Republic of Ireland in November 2020.

With Pickford out for a month with a thigh injury, the 25-year-old former Carlisle academy player will hope to come back into the reckoning when Southgate names his squad for Nations League games against Italy and Germany later this month.

The squad for those games is set to be confirmed on September 15.

The Cumbrian endured a frustrating 2021/22 season, where he was second-choice to David de Gea at Old Trafford.

Henderson recently used a TalkSport interview to criticise his treatment by Man Utd.

His displays for Forest so far this term have included penalty saves from Tottenham Hotspur's England captain Harry Kane, and West Ham United's England midfield star Declan Rice.
