An Oldham Athletic fans group have called for a minute's applause as a show of support to former Carlisle United striker Hallam Hope.

It follows yesterday's news that Hope had suffered serious injuries after being attacked after Oldham's game against Chesterfield on Saturday.

There have been allegations that an opposition player was involved, and police are investigating.

Hope, Oldham said, needed hospital treatment after the incident and will be out of action for several weeks.

Now supporters movement Push The Boundary are asking fellow fans to make a big show of support to the 28-year-old.

"As a gesture to show Hallam Hope that we are thinking of him and wishing him a safe and speedy recovery, we are asking [Oldham] fans to partake in a minute's applause and chanting in the 11th minute of the weekend's game with Boreham Wood," they said in a statement on social media.

Hope has squad number 11 at Oldham.

The Boundary Park club yesterday said the ex-Blues player had been the victim of a "vicious assault" in the staff car park after Saturday's 2-0 defeat.

They said they had provided CCTV footage to the police.

"The club is supporting Hallam and will continue to do so. We wish him a speedy recovery from a dreadful experience," the Latics added.

Chesterfield also issued a statement on Monday afternoon amid reports in the Daily Mail that one of their players was involved.

"Following an incident which took place after Saturday’s game at Oldham Athletic, we are aware of an allegation relating to an un-named Chesterfield player," they said.

"We are assisting Greater Manchester Police with their enquiries. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made at this stage."

Hope has played for Oldham since 2021, making 53 appearances for the Boundary Park club.

He made 148 appearances in two spells for Carlisle from 2015-20, scoring 36 goals.

His other previous clubs include Everton, Northampton Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Bury and Swindon Town.
