Workington Reds' hopes of an FA Cup run were ended in cruel late fashion by South Shields.

Danny Grainger's men were three minutes away from an impressive first qualifying round win in the north east.

But two late goals by Kevin Phillips' hosts saw Reds suffer a 3-2 defeat.

Grainger's men had led twice at 1st Cloud Arena, with Lewis Reilly first heading the visitors in front.

Then, after former Carlisle United loan man Martin Smith had levelled the scores, Dan Wordsworth headed Reds back in front with 15 minutes to go.

But in the 87th minute Michael Woods volleyed Phillips' men level.

And in added time the former Chelsea and Hartlepool United man broke Workington hearts by slotting home the winner.

It sent South Shields into Monday's second qualifying round draw.
