A look at the latest news and rumours from around Carlisle United’s division…

SALFORD STAR A WANTED MAN

Salford City’s Brandon Thomas-Asante is attracting interest from higher divisions ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

Sky Sports report that the five-goal forward is the subject of a bid from League One side Barnsley.

Other clubs from the second and third tiers are also said to be monitoring the situation regarding the 23-year-old.

TRANMERE FRONTMAN IN DEMAND

Another attacker who’s the subject of speculation is Tranmere Rovers’ Elliott Nevitt.

The former non-league marksman has caught the attention of Morecambe and Burton Albion, report Football League World.

Morecambe’s former Carlisle United striker Cole Stockton is a wanted man and the League One club could be looking at their options.

CREWE PLAY WAITING GAME

Crewe Alexandra boss Alex Morris has not ruled out additions before Thursday’s deadline, but says players would need to leave first.

“Unless there are outgoings, there won’t be any incomings,” he told Cheshire Live.

“We have identified that we still need a player or players in certain positions but we are at the stage now where we can’t manoeuvre unless we have some outgoing movement.”

Morris added that Crewe’s permanent signings so far – including former Blues defenders Kelvin Mellor and Rod McDonald – have had a “huge impact”.

NO LEAGUE TWO SWITCH FOR DIAMOND

He was long linked with a return to League Two – with some Carlisle fans hoping he’d end up at Brunton Park.

But in the end Sunderland winger Jack Diamond has made a loan move to a higher division.

The former Harrogate Town star has gone to Lincoln City for the season.

“Jack did really well in League Two and he has continued to progress with us throughout pre-season, so the natural step for him now is to demonstrate the same levels of performance and consistency in League One,” said Kristjaan Speakman, Sunderland’s sporting director on the club website.

CHAMPIONSHIP CLUBS EYE DONS MIDFIELDER

AFC Wimbledon attacking midfielder Ayoub Assal is the subject of bids from higher up the pyramid, the Mirror report.

The 20-year-old is interesting the likes of QPR, Peterborough United and Watford, they say.

The newspaper also claims a Ligue One club in France are casting their eye over Assal.

MARINERS WANT OWLS MAN

Sheffield Wednesday’s Alex Hunt is wanted for a return to Grimsby Town.

But Mariners boss Paul Hurst says it may go to the wire on whether he could be allowed to join the Blundell Park club.

“We were still there and interested, so it is basically in Sheffield Wednesday’s hands and not ours as to whether he joins us,” he told GrimsbyLive.

“At the minute, things seem to be stuck, but it would be nice if we got the call to go through with it for Alex and us because I believe he wants to join us, so we’ll see.

HUGHES BEMOANS ‘FRUSTRATING’ TACTICS

Bradford City boss Mark Hughes was a frustrated man after a 0-0 draw at home to Crewe.

“Another team have come with the intention of frustrating and slowing the game down. It’s not really enjoyable for everybody,” he told the Telegraph & Argus.

“We’re disappointed we haven’t been able to get maximum points. We clearly deserved that from our dominance of the game.

“We can take it as a compliment that teams don’t want to open up against us because they know it’s going to allow us to have that space and opportunity to damage them.”

SUTTON SET TO SIGN SHREW

Sutton United are set to move for ex-Shrewsbury Town defender Aaron Pierre, report Football League World.

Pierre is a free agent after leaving the Shrews in the summer.

And the 29-year-old former Wycombe Wanderers and Northampton Town man now looks set to head to Gander Green Lane.

WILD HAILS FLASH GORDON

A more central focus is paying off for in-form Barrow frontman, reckons manager Pete Wild.

“Last year, when we were watching the videos, he seemed to be running everywhere but now he seems to be central, between the goals," said Wild after Gordon scored his fourth of the season against AFC Wimbledon.

“He’s a really good one-touch finisher, and he showed that again.”
