Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson says enquiries for some of his players were “serious” – but he hopes to fend-off any last-minute interest.

Blues manager Simpson is hoping for a quiet end to the summer transfer window.

Simmo said last week that he had fielded enquiries for unnamed members of his squad.

But he said actual offers had not yet materialised – and he’ll be happy if it stays that way before Thursday night’s deadline.

“They were serious enquiries but I just knocked it back straight away and said I’m not interested,” Simpson told the News & Star.

“The truth of it is, they came in and said, ‘We’re thinking of doing something’.

“Well, I can’t be the buyer and the seller. It’s up to them. They have to make a decision.

“If they want to do something, they’ll have to do something. But I don’t want players to be leaving.”

Simpson does not intend to add to his squad unless he needs to move very late in the window to cover an unexpected departure.

United’s manager would prefer not to have to act as the deadline approaches.

“I’m happy with the group we’ve got here, that will take us through to January, which is our first phase of a rebuild at the club, and we’ll wait and see,” he said.

“Thursday is the deadline – I’m not expecting us to do anything coming in, and I’m really hoping we’re not doing anything going out.”
