Former Carlisle United forward Harry McKirdy has been fined and banned for three games for his reaction to being sent off.

The Swindon Town player must pay a fine of £1,500 and sit out the Robins' next three matches under a Football Association ruling.

An independent regulatory commission has today returned its verdict after McKirdy admitted his behaviour after a red card against Salford City was "aggressive and improper".

He was found to have breached FA Rule E3 with his reaction to his dismissal.

The FA have not yet commented on the details of the charge, saying the written reasons will be published in due course.

But reports yesterday shed light on McKirdy's alleged actions after his dismissal in the August 6 game at the County Ground.

Sky Sports reported that the 25-year-old, after being dismissed late in the first half of the Salford game, went into the match officials' room "and smashed a bottle of protein drink, which spilled over the referee's suit."

They reported that McKirdy initially threw a number of items in the Swindon kit room to vent his frustration, then went into the referee's changing room intending to confront ref Andy Woolmer.

"But he found the room empty, and so threw a protein drink against the wall which burst, and went over the official's change of clothes," Sky added.

The player, posting on Instagram later that day, said he was "speechless".

McKirdy, who recently returned to Brunton Park to play in Swindon's 1-1 draw with Carlisle, has been the subject of transfer speculation recently.

The forward, who has scored two goals this season, has been linked with Championship, League One and Scottish Premiership clubs.

McKirdy played for United in the 2019/20 season and was the Blues' top scorer.
