Rochdale's Robbie Stockdale has today become the first managerial casualty of the League Two season.
He has paid the price for a miserable start to the campaign.
Rochdale - visitors to Carlisle United in two weeks' time - confirmed the head coach's departure in a short statement.
It said: "Rochdale Football Club have today parted company with Robbie Stockdale and [assistant] Jimmy Shan.
"The board would like to place on record its thanks to Robbie and Jimmy, and wish them every success in the future."
Stockdale had overseen four consecutive league defeats at the start of the new campaign.
The latest, a 1-0 defeat at Stevenage on Tuesday night, has proved the final straw, with Rochdale the only side in the fourth tier yet to win a single point.
Dale also lost to Crewe Alexandra, Gillingham and Grimsby Town, with a Carabao Cup win over Burton Albion not enough to save Stockdale.
The ex-Middlesbrough and Sunderland man had been in charge at Spotland for just over a year.
Rochdale have not yet indicated who will take caretaker charge. They face Swindon Town this weekend, with their subsequent league game at Brunton Park on September 3.
