The highly-rated son of former Carlisle United star Rory Delap has made a move to the Championship.

Striker Liam Delap has joined Stoke City on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

It gives the 19-year-old the prospect of first-team football to aid his development.

Delap will be coached by his father, who is first-team coach at the bet365 Stadium.

And his team-mates will include former Blues player Liam McCarron, who joined Stoke from Leeds United this summer.

Stoke manager Michael O'Neill said he was delighted to land England Under-19 star Delap.

"It’s no secret that we have been looking to bring Liam to the club this summer," he told the Potters website.

"We have been in dialogue with City for some time now and had the opportunity a few weeks ago to outline our plans for Liam.

“We are grateful to them for the trust they have placed in us and we are really excited about working with Liam.”

Delap joined Man City from Derby in 2019 and has made three first-team appearances.

He has been coveted by a number of clubs but could now make his Stoke debut against Sunderland on Saturday.
