Former Carlisle United defender Richard Keogh is on the move to League One.

The veteran centre-half has left Blackpool to join Ipswich Town.

It sees Keogh rejoin the club in whose academy he started as a teenager.

It is the latest move in the 35-year-old's career after a year in the Championship with Blackpool.

The man who played for the Blues from 2008-10 told Ipswich's website: “It’s amazing to be back.

“I started my football journey here and I have so many memories from my early days, so I can’t wait to get back out on the Portman Road pitch in front of the fans.”

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is delighted to have made Keogh his seventh summer signing.

“Richard is a fantastic addition to the group,” he said.

“He is respected in the dressing room and has been through the highs and lows in football. He will be valuable to us over what is a long season.

“His experience at club and international level is great, and he can still contribute having played a good number of games with Blackpool last season.

"He is an intelligent player and reads the game very well."

Keogh made 95 appearances for Carlisle in a career which has also included spells at Bristol City, Coventry City, Derby County and MK Dons, as well as 26 Republic of Ireland caps.
