Cumbrian defender Jarrad Branthwaite made his PSV Eindhoven debut in a dramatic Champions League victory.

Everton's former Carlisle United man came off the bench as the Dutch club beat Monaco to set up a clash with Rangers.

Branthwaite was in the first-team squad for the first time in the third qualifying round second leg.

With the tie level at 1-1 afer the first leg, PSV scored late on to force a 2-2 draw at home and take the second leg into extra time.

Wigton star Branthwaite was then introduced in the 17th minute of extra-time in place of Joey Veerman - before, two minutes later, Luuk de Jong scored to clinch a dramatic 3-2 win and 4-3 aggregate triumph for Ruud van Nistelrooy's PSV.

Branthwaite, 20, will now take on Rangers after the Glasgow side dramatically overcame Union Saint Galloise.

The Ibrox outfit won 3-0 to overturn their opponents' 2-0 first-leg lead.

Ex-Carlisle loan man James Tavernier struck a penalty to start Rangers' fightback on home soil on Tuesday night.

The Rangers v PSV games in the next qualifying round on August 16 in Glasgow and 24 in Eindhoven.

Branthwaite recently joined PSV on a season-long loan from his Premier League parent club.
