Carlisle United's Sam Fishburn made his debut in a losing cause for loan club Blyth Spartans.

The teenage Blues striker came off the bench for his first competitive appearance for the National League North club.

But Fishburn was thwarted in his bid to help Blyth avoid defeat to Kidderminster Harriers.

They lost 1-0 in their opening league game at Croft Park.

Fishburn, who has joined Blyth for three months, was sent into action by boss Terry Mitchell after 65 minutes.

The 18-year-old sub replaced Corey McKeown.

Fishburn came on at a time Blyth were trailing to an Ashley Hemmings goal.

The young Blues pro got on the end of an injury-time cross but headed wide as Blyth looked in vain for a late leveller.

The home side also included former Carlisle player Michael Liddle, with Josh Gillies coming on as a second-half sub and Nathan Buddle an unused sub.

Kidderminster, managed by ex-Blues midfielder Russell Penn, featured former United defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival.

United's other young loanee, Max Kilsby, was an unused sub at his first Annan Athletic home game.

Defender Kilsby, having started at Stranraer the previous weekend, was not called upon by Peter Murphy for the 2-1 win over Stenhousemuir at Galabank.

Ex-United defender Steven Swinglehurst got Annan's first goal.
