Carlisle United confirmed today they have sent their defender out on loan to a Scottish team.

Defender Max Kilsby will join Peter Murphy’s Scottish League Two side Annan Athletic on a half-season loan deal.

Kilsby, who turns 19 in October, turned pro at in May this year on the successful completion of his two-year scholarship programme.

He settled into the first-team environment as he stepped up to train regularly with the squad, having shone at the youth team level.

Manager Paul Simpson said: “It’s a great opportunity and it'll be good for him.

“I obviously know Murph, and that was part of the thinking in letting him go up there, because I trust Murph to look after him.

"It’s a decent standard of football for him to play and he needs to develop in men’s football.

"I didn’t feel he was quite ready for us at this moment in time, but I think there’s some potential there.

"We’ll see how he goes in his first few months and hopefully it will turn out to be the right thing for him, which I think will be the case."
