A home clash with Premiership side Aberdeen is the reward for Peter Murphy's Annan Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup.

The mouthwatering tie was thrown up in the last-16 draw of the league cup.

The Galabank encounter with the Dons is the prize for Annan after they impressively finished top of their group.

Now they will take on Jim Goodwin's top-flight side in late August.

Annan have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign under former Carlisle United favourite Murphy.

They went unbeaten through Premier Sports Cup group F and made history by becoming the first League Two side to top their group.

Their progress included a 3-2 victory at Queen of the South and a 0-0 draw plus penalty shoot-out success at top-flight outfit St Johnstone.

Murphy's men went on to thrash Elgin City 4-0 before fighting back to draw 1-1 with Ayr United, also beating them on penalties.

Aberdeen swept into the last 16 with a 100 per cent record in group A, beating Stirling Albion, Raith Rovers, Dumbarton and Peterhead.

The tie at Galabank will be a midweek encounter on August 30 or 31.

Other last-16 ties include a trip to Ibrox to take on Rangers for Queen of the South.

Murphy's side, meanwhile, are preparing for their Scottish League Two opener at Stranraer this Saturday.

Annan narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs last season.
