Carlisle United will face Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues will face the League One side on the week commencing August 8.

It will be a return to Shropshire for manager Paul Simpson, who previously managed the Shrews between March 2008 and April 2010.

The two teams met last season, with Shrewsbury coming out 2-1 winners in the second round of the FA Cup.

Carlisle fell at the first hurdle in the Carabao Cup last season as they were knocked out by Sheffield United in the first round of the competition.

Premier League clubs that are not competing in Europe will join the competition in Round Two - along with Burnley and Watford - with those competing in Europe to join in Round Three.
