Former Carlisle United manager Chris Beech has reportedly been considered for the managerial vacancy at League One side Barnsley.

The Barnsley Chronicle report that the 47-year-old is one of a number of names who has been considered by the Tykes.

Beech left Brunton Park in October 2021 after just under two years at the helm - in what was his first managerial job.

The former Hartlepool United and Huddersfield Town midfielder had previously worked at Rochdale as Keith Hill's number two.

He steadied the ship after his arrival at Carlisle and at times had the Cumbrians competing in the upper echelons of League Two.

But he left the club third from bottom in the fourth tier and just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Beech has yet to return to management, but is said to be one of the names mentioned by the Barnsley hierarchy.

Cheltenham Town boss Michael Duff remains a leading candidate with Daniel Stendel also a contender.

Barnsley are said to have narrowed their shortlist down to five names, and are hopeful of making a decision within a week.
