Former Carlisle United goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is leaving QPR after his short-term stay with the Championship club.

The former Blues star had joined the Loftus Road outfit in March amid an injury crisis.

After making six appearances, Westwood will now depart the west London club at the end of the season along with five other players.

The 37-year-old had returned to first-team football in the spring having been without a club since his departure from Sheffield Wednesday last summer.

Both he and fellow keeper David Marshall have now been released as well as Charlie Austin, Dom Ball, Dillon Barnes and Lee Wallace.

QPR chief executive Lee Hoos said in a statement: "David and Kieren came in during an unprecedented spate of injuries to our goalkeeping department, and they gave everything from the moment they arrived.

“While Dillon never played in the first team, we thank him for his efforts.

“We would like to wish Charlie, Dom, Dillon, David, Lee and Kieren all the very best for the future.”

Westwood is widely regarded as one of United's best keepers of all-time thanks to his starring performances from 2004-8.

The Republic of Ireland international, who joined the Blues from Manchester City, went on to play for Coventry City and Sunderland before a seven-year spell at Hillsborough.
