Carlisle United's Taylor Charters will return to Brunton Park with a championship medal after helping Gateshead to promotion glory.

The young Blues loan midfielder and his team-mates are celebrating after the north east club wrapped up the National League North title yesterday.

Charters was in the team as Gateshead drew 2-2 at Chorley on Bank Holiday Monday.

That was enough to put them out of reach of second-placed Brackley Town with one game to go.

Charters, 20, has regularly featured for Mike Williamson's side in their successful campaign.

The west Cumbrian has made 21 appearances and scored four goals as Gateshead returned to non-league's top tier for the first time since 2019 - a year they were demoted over financial breaches under previous owners.

Charters started the latest game at left-back and played the first 45 minutes, as goals from Carl Magnay and Owen Bailey secured the result that, coupled with Brackley's 2-2 draw at Hereford, meant Gateshead could celebrate.

Charters, from Maryport, joined Gateshead for an initial month's loan in January and went on to extend the deal until the end of the season.

He has one game remaining with Heed, at home to Hereford at the International Stadium on Saturday, while his current United contract is up this summer.
