One of Carlisle United's 2022/23 League Two opponents have confirmed the appointment of their new manager.

Crewe Alexandra, who have been relegated from the third tier, have announced interim boss Alex Morris will take the permanent reins.

Morris has been in charge since the departure of David Artell earlier this month.

He will now lead the Railwaymen back in the basement division next season, assisted by Lee Bell.

Crewe were relegated on April 9 and are eight points adrift at the foot of League One with one game to go.

Chairman Charles Grant said in a statement: “Alex and Lee are the ideal choice for our club and I’m delighted that they have agreed to lead the first team.

“Together, they have well over 50 years of experience in the game and know exactly what is required to deliver success for Crewe Alexandra.

“The board and management team will be working hard to make next season a positive one for our supporters.”

Crewe's relegation comes two years after they were promoted from United's division.

Other relegation matters will be decided tomorrow with the final round of League One fixtures getting under way at 12.30pm.

Both Doncaster Rovers and AFC Wimbledon are three points adrift of safety and, in Doncaster's case, with a vastly inferior goal difference to rivals.

Gillingham are also in the relegation zone in 21st place and hoping to overhaul fifth-bottom Fleetwood - who are ahead of them on goal difference - on the last day.

Morecambe, in 19th place and two points above the drop zone, are also hoping to seal safety.

Doncaster go to Oxford United, Wimbledon take on Accrington Stanley at home, Gillingham host Rotherham United, Fleetwood go to Bolton Wanderers and Morecambe host Sunderland.
