Former Carlisle United striker Harry McKirdy has been rewarded for an impressive campaign by named in the League Two team of the season.

The Swindon Town forward's place in the divisional select XI was confirmed last night.

McKirdy, 24, has fired 20 goals in 39 games this season.

And that was enough to see him named one of the fourth tier's best frontmen along with Newport County's Dom Telford and Forest Green Rovers' Matty Stevens.

McKirdy's tally included one against his former club at Brunton Park during Swindon's 3-0 win in February.

He returned from injury to score two more in a 3-0 win at Hartlepool United on Saturday for tenth-placed Swindon.

McKirdy has revitalised his career in Wiltshire this season after an obscure 2020/21 at Port Vale following his United release, having netted 11 goals in 38 outings for the Blues in 2019/20.

The SkyBet League Two XI was announced last night at the EFL awards.

McKirdy's team-mate Jojo Wollacott was selected in goal, in front of a back three of Northampton Town's Jon Guthrie, Tranmere Roves' Peter Clarke and Salford City's Jordan Turnbull.

The four midfield players chosen were Forest Green's Kane Wilson and Nicky Cadden, Exeter City's Timothee Dieng and Newport's Finn Azaz.

Forest Green boss Rob Edwards was named manager of the year for leading the Gloucestershire club to promotion, while Wilson was crowned the division's player of the season and Azaz young player of the season.

Colchester United's Junior Tchamadeu was named the division's apprentice of the season.
