Carlisle United defender Morgan Feeney has been voted League Two's player of the month by fans.

The centre-half has scooped the March award in a poll run by Football League World.

Blues fans voted in their droves to help the 23-year-old pick up the prize.

It saw him come out on top in the voting ahead of five fellow fourth-tier players.

Judges said: "March has been a truly remarkable month for Carlisle United, who took 15 points from seven games as the turnaround under Paul Simpson gathered pace.

"Morgan Feeney has embodied the Cumbrians’ fighting spirit better than anyone – making 32 clearances and bagging a goal – and deserves recognition."

Feeney beat Bristol Rovers' Elliot Anderson, Port Vale's Ben Garrity, Leyton Orient's Ruel Sotiriou, Exeter City's Jevani Brown and Salford City's Matt Smith to the award.

The former Sunderland and Everton defender has grown into a fan favourite at United and has become a key part of the Blues' revival under Paul Simpson.

As well as contributing to six wins from eight with some battling performances, he scored a memorable last-minute winner at Oldham.

United will be expected to figure in the nominations for the official SkyBet League Two monthly awards, with Simpson expected to be in the running for manager of the month.
