Former Carlisle United defender Aaron Hayden has earned an international call-up.

The centre-half has been named in the latest England C squad.

Hayden has been selected in a 16-man group that will take on Wales C later this month.

It is a reward for the 25-year-old's performances for Wrexham in the National League this season.

The man who left Carlisle at the start of this season has been a regular fixture at the back for the big-spending Welsh outfit, who are third in non-league's top tier.

The England C side features players who play for clubs outside the Premier League and EFL.

The game against Wales at Caernarfon on March 30 will see the non-league select XI back in action after fixtures in previous campaigns fell victim to Covid-19.

Hayden has made 31 appearances and scored six goals for Wrexham since his August move to the Racecourse Ground on a three-year deal.

His club team-mates Ben Tozer and Paul Mullin are also in Paul Fairclough's England C squad.

"The last two encounters between the two sides have provided plenty of entertainment and a platform for the players to progress their careers, so we’re looking forward to what should be an exciting game for all involved," said England C manager Fairclough.
