Carlisle United have cut short Lewis Bell’s loan spell at Warrington Town due to frustrations over his lack of game time.

Manager Keith Millen said he was “annoyed” that the young winger had featured so little for the Northern Premier League side.

Bell, 19, has featured just once for Warrington since joining them on January 20 in a month-long deal.

He was not in their squad for their most recent game against Nantwich Town – and Millen confirmed United have brought him back early.

The Blues boss said: “That’s annoyed me, that one. We have called him back.

“He’s got to see his loan out, but that’s not worked, that one, for whatever reason.

“So he won’t be going back there, and nor will any other players from us.

“We need to find somewhere else – he needs to play games. We will be looking for that.

“He has ten days, something like that, left on the loan. That won’t be happening again.”

Millen said Bell would not be spending the remainder of his loan with Warrington.

“He’s come back with us,” the manager told the News & Star. “If they’re not going to use him I don’t want him going there – there’s no point.

“He’s been training with us this week. But he can’t be involved with us until the loan’s finished.”

Bell’s only outing came against Grantham when he started the game but was replaced at half-time. He was an unused sub in fixtures against South Shields and Whitby Town.

The Warrington chairman Toby Macormac, however, has hit back at the comments on Twitter:

Millen, meanwhile, hinted that Taylor Charters could extend his stay at Gateshead if it is deemed the right move for all parties.

The Blues midfielder, who scored in Heed’s win over Blyth Spartans on Tuesday, plays the last game of his initial month this weekend.

Millen played down the prospect of bringing Charters back into the first-team fold at United.

He added: “He got on and scored the other night so that was good.

“There have been discussions this week. His last game’s this weekend. I’ll be speaking to Taylor to see how he’s getting on.

“He’s probably not had as much game time as we’d have liked, [but] been involved in all the games.

“I’ll have a chat with him, and speak to the club, see what their thoughts are.

“It’s great that he’s in and around them and playing – that’s what we want to continue with him, really. I need to check with the lad first, see if he’s enjoying it and feel he’s getting enough out of it.”

Millen said west Cumbrian midfielder Charters’ route back to the first-team at United was currently blocked by others.

He said of the 20-year-old: “If I felt that he would have an impact in the starting XI for us I would call him back.

“I think the squad’s strong enough with what we’ve got – there are players I’ve brought in that I want to give some game time to.

“If it means him staying there and getting more football then we’d do that.”
