Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to rotate his squad for this weekend's Scottish Cup clash at Annan Athletic.

The Old Firm chief plans to use the fifth round tie at Galabank to give game time to players who need it.

The sell-out occasion promises to be one of the biggest in Annan’s history as Peter Murphy’s side bid to pull off a huge upset.

The tie is being televised live as former Carlisle United favourite Murphy’s side take on the Scottish Champions.

Van Bronckhorst could include star new signing Aaron Ramsey, who has made two sub appearances since his move from Juventus.

The Ibrox boss, speaking to Rangers TV after Wednesday’s 2-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Hibernian, said: “I think we have the possibility to rotate now.

“We have quite a big squad with a lot of players coming back from long-term and short-term injuries.

“I think it [the Annan game] is a good moment to give the minutes to the players who didn’t play a lot, but of course with the intention to win the game and make sure we are in the draw for the next round.”

Annan will bring in some £24,000 extra revenue from the game being televised on Premier Sports, but face an extra outlay on police and stewards as a big crowd heads to Galabank.

It is Rangers’ first visit to Annan since 2013, when the Gers were in Scottish Division Three and earned a 3-1 win.

Murphy’s side sit third in Scottish League Two having recently enjoyed an 11-game unbeaten run, which finally came to an end against Stenhousemuir last Saturday.

Bookmakers make Annan 45/1 to pull off an incredible victory, with Rangers as short as 1/20 to win.

Kick-off on Saturday is 5.30pm.
