Manchester United's Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson is at the centre of speculation about a possible deadline-day move.

The Whitehaven star has been linked with a loan switch to Newcastle United.

But there are conflicting reports over whether Henderson will indeed make a move to the north east before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Henderson is keen to play first-team football after being understudy to David de Gea at Old Trafford this season.

The 24-year-old recently asked for a move but Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick said he wanted the former Carlisle United academy keeper to stay.

Reports, though, surfaced in the national media last night suggesting talks had been opened with Newcastle over a possible loan deal.

The Mail reported that discussions were under way.

Newcastle have already been active in the market, signing Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon and with Brighton defender Dan Burn also poised to join.

A deal for Henderson could depend on Toon boss Eddie Howe's further transfer priorities today, and whether another keeper, Freddie Woodman, could depart before the deadline.

Another Cumbrian whose future is in the balance today is Gillingham's former Carlisle United star Kyle Dempsey.

The Maryport midfielder is openly the subject of interest from Bolton Wanderers.

Trotters boss Ian Evatt told the Bolton News:  “I am really hopeful, and we are working extremely hard, but we won’t overpay anybody or overpay for anybody.

“We want to do things strategically and sensibly and we won’t ever put this club at risk again, so if it falls inside what we believe it is worth, then we will do it.

“If it doesn't then we’ll move on to somebody else.”

A further player with Cumbrian connections, Manchester City's Liam Delap, looks unlikely to leave on loan today.

The son of ex-Carlisle star Rory, striker Delap has long been the subject of loan interest from Championship clubs.

But the teenager, recently back from injury, is likely to remain with City.
