Brandon Comley has headed north of the border after the end of his spell with Carlisle United.

The midfielder is now training with Ayr United.

Comley spent several weeks recently with the Cumbrians as he built up his fitness after his November departure from Bolton Wanderers.

United boss Keith Millen ran the rule over the former Blues loanee in a practice game.

But he did not pursue a deal for Comley, who is now trying out with Scottish Championship side Ayr.

The 26-year-old featured in a 3-0 friendly win over Morton, reports the Daily Record.

Ayr sit seventh in Scotland's second tier and their squad includes former Carlisle United man Cameron Salkeld and ex-Blues loan defender Sean McGinty.

Millen, speaking recently about Comley, said: "He did well, and I would have been happy for him to carry on training with us a bit longer, but for the player, he needs to get himself sorted.

“I asked myself, ‘What more do I need to see that’s going to change my mind?’

“He was good to have around the place, is a good player and has got more fitness into him.

“We’ve helped him in that respect but I couldn’t guarantee him a place in the team."

The Montserrat international was on loan at United from QPR in the 2015/16 season.
