Former Carlisle United defender Aaron Hayden got the better of Tristan Abrahams in the Blues striker's latest loan appearance.

Abrahams came up against Hayden in his second appearance for Grimsby Town since joining the Mariners on loan.

But Hayden's side Wrexham prevailed at the Racecourse Ground with a 1-0 victory in the National League clash on Tuesday night.

It was a second successive defeat for Abrahams, who has started both games for the Mariners since joining Paul Hurst's side until the end of the season.

The United frontman played the full 90 minutes but big-spending Wrexham won thanks to a goal from their new £300,000 signing Ollie Palmer.

The defeat left Grimsby tenth in non-league's top tier as Wrexham went sixth.

Abrahams had a first-half opportunity failed then failed to get the final touch on a cross after the break.

The striker, who could face Wealdstone this weekend, is one of four United players currently out on loan.

Josh Dixon, who joined Workington Reds for a month yesterday, will be hoping for a debut against Runcorn Linnets this weekend.

Fellow midfielder Taylor Charters has enjoyed three starts and three wins for Gateshead, who go to York City this weekend.

And Lewis Bell, an unused sub for Warrington Town last Saturday, will be eyeing his first involvement against Whitby Town this weekend.
