One of Carlisle United's rivals in the fight for League Two survival have drafted in a new coach.

Stevenage, who sit two points behind the Cumbrians, have added former Forest Green interim boss Jimmy Ball to their staff.

The son of England legend Alan Ball, he joins the recently-appointed manager Paul Tisdale at the Lamex Stadium.

It comes as Tisdale reshapes things at Stevenage after his arrival as Alex Revell's successor.

Ball, who has been named first-team coach, was in temporary charge at Forest Green last season after the departure of Mark Cooper.

He was at the helm as the Nailsworth club reached the League Two play-offs before losing to Newport County in the semi-finals.

He had previous coaching spells in Ireland and the USA, as well as in England with Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.

Stevenage are third bottom in the table, one place behind Keith Millen's Blues and apoint above the relegation places.

The Hertfordshire club are winless in six league games and eight in all competitions - a run that include a 2-0 home defeat to the Blues on December 11.
