Former Carlisle United striker Ryan Loft earned Scunthorpe United a 3-1 win at Oldham Athletic in the League Two relegation battle.

Loft scored twice in the second half to boost the Iron's survival chances in one of just three Boxing Day games to survive Covid.

Keith Hill's Iron came from behind after Benny Couto's Latics opener, Loft netting either side of a Miles Hippolyte strike in the six-pointer at Boundary Park.

It was a first win in ten games in all competitions as Scunthorpe moved out of the relegation zone in third bottom position - level on points with fourth-bottom Carlisle.

Oldham are rock bottom, three points adrift of the three clubs on 19 points, Stevenage second-bottom on goal difference.

Carlisle's position in the table is unchanged despite their home game against Rochdale being postponed because of Covid cases in the Blues' ranks.

Elsewhere in the division, United's fellow Cumbrians Barrow remain 19th, three points above the Blues, after they lost 2-0 at Tranmere Rovers.

Nicky Maynard hit an early opener for Micky Mellon's side, with Kieron Morris getting a late second.

The division's other game saw Mansfield Town win a five-goal thriller against Hartlepool United.

The Stags came from 2-0 down to prevail 3-2 on a foggy day at the One Call Stadium.

Luke Molyneux put the Monkey Hangers ahead in the first half with Nicky Featherstone then doubling their lead.

But three goals in 11 minutes from John-Joe O'Toole, Jordan Bowery and George Maris turned things around for the hosts.

Gavan Holohan had a late Pools goal disallowed, leaving Graeme Lee's side 15th. Nigel Clough's Mansfield moved up to ninth.
