Former Carlisle United duo Danny Livesey and Simon Grand have been praised for their work in caretaker charge of National League North club Chester.

The non-league outfit have now appointed a new boss in the form of ex-Gateshead and York City boss Steve Watson.

Ex-Carlisle defender Livesey had taken the reins, assisted by Grand, after the departures of joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

The veteran defenders were at the helm for three games.

City Fans United chairman Andy Morris said: “The work that Danny Livesey and Simon Grand have done in interim charge has been incredible and we thank them both for their efforts and dedication to the club stepping up in difficult circumstances.”

It has not yet been announced whether the defensive duo will have roles in Watson's backroom team.

Grand and Livesey remain players at the Deva Stadium, having been at Chester since 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Chester sit 16th in National League North. On the appointment of former Newcastle player Watson, Morris added: "Having spoken to Steve numerous times, we are confident that he can build on the foundations already within the club for the remainder of the season."

Johnson and Morley were recently unveiled as the new managers of Spennymoor Town, where former Blues midfield favourite Jason Kennedy is on the books.
