Former Carlisle United favourite Danny Livesey enjoyed his first victory in management yesterday.

The interim Chester boss saw his side overcome Leamington in National League North.

Livesey, assisted by fellow ex-Blues man Simon Grand, oversaw a 2-1 victory at the Deva Stadium.

It saw the 36-year-old defender enjoy victory in his second game at the helm, Chester having lost to Curzon Ashton in the FA Trophy the previous weekend.

Livesey was asked to step up after the recent departure of joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

It remains to be seen whether the former United men, who are close friends, will remain in charge for longer.

Speaking after the game, Grand said: "As long as we're winning, that's all that matters.

"Today's done and straight away we're thinking of [the next game against] Spennymoor.

"If that's us in charge, [so be it]. If not we'll still be preparing as best we can."

Grand says he and Livesey have tried to generate "positivity" at Chester, who are 15th in non-league's second tier.

Livesey made 333 appearances for United from 2004-2014, putting him in the club's top 10 appearance makers, and contributed to two promotions.

Grand played alongside him at the Blues between 2004-7, making 49 appearances for the club and was also a part of two promotion-winning squads.
