Former Carlisle United boss Chris Beech is among the bookies' favourites for the job at home-town club Fleetwood Town.

The League One strugglers are looking for a new manager after sacking Simon Grayson on Tuesday.

And Beech quickly emerged among the short-odds frontrunners for the position.

The man axed by United last month is 6/4 with BetVictor, behind 5/4 shot Stephen Crainey, the current caretaker manager.

It is not the first time Beech, 47, has been linked with the Cod Army role, having figured highly in the betting in January before Grayson was apointed as Joey Barton's successor.

The ex-United boss, who was in charge at Brunton Park from November 2019 to October 2021, has long-standing links with Fleetwood.

Beech's father Steve and two uncles played for the club, while Beech himself ended his playing career there.

United's boss scored the goal which sealed promotion from the North West Counties League in 2005 for Fleetwood.

Keith Curle, who left Oldham today, is 12/1 along with Michael Flynn.

Fleetwood are third bottom of League One, Grayson leaving after Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Oxford - a fifth straight loss in all competitions.

His assistant, the former Barrow boss David Dunn, is also departing.

“The search for his replacement will begin immediately,” a club statement said.

Fleetwood's squad includes the former Carlisle striker Joe Garner.
