Dylan Fitzgerald’s 81st minute goal was enough to earn the visitors a 1-0 win.

It saw the Cumbrians bow out of the competition after reaching the second round for the first time in more than 40 years.

In front of a crowd of 220, Jim Nichols’ side had their first-half chances with Jordan Irving seeing an early effort saved.

Jordan Lazenbury hit the post for the visitors, with home defender Dan Kirkup making important blocks and keeper Craig Murray good saves to keep Abbey Hey at bay.

Kirkup went close at the other end for City with Jordan Holt having an effort saved after the break for the Northern League Division Two side.

Abbey Hey had a goal disallowed through Fitzgerald, before both sides had a man sent off - Ben Halfacre for the visitors and Kirkup for City.

Fitzgerald then scored the decisive goal from a Lazenbury pass in the closing stages.

The scorer could have added a late second while Sam Atkinson went close from a free-kick, but City could not salvage their Vase hopes as Abbey Hey made it to the third round for the first time in 19 years.
