Cumbrian badminton star Lauren Smith is continuing her bid for glory in the Indonesia Masters.

It is the latest international tournament on the agenda for the double Olympian from Longtown.

Smith and mixed doubles partner Marcus Ellis take on South Korean pair Ko Sung-hyun and Eom Hye-won tomorrow in the quarter-finals in Bali.

The England duo, who are fourth seeds, have already seen off Indonesian pair Alfian Eko Prasetya and Masita Mahmudin, followed by victory over South Koreans Kim Young-hyuk and Chae Yoo-yung.

A semi-final encounter with Thai top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai could await if Smith and Ellis are successful in their last-eight tie.

Smith, 30, is also competing in the women’s doubles alongside Chloe Birch.

The English sixth seeds made it through the first round thanks to victory over Ukrainian pair Mariia Stoliarenko and Yelyzaveta Zharka.

That set up a second round meeting today with Japanese duo Chisato Hoshi and Aoi Matsuda, in the final Super 750 tournament of the year as the Badminton World Federation season draws to a close.

In the men’s doubles, meanwhile, England’s Sean Vendy and Ben Lane lost to Malaysia’s world number seven pair of Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh in three sets.
