Former Carlisle United star Adam Clayton is a free agent after leaving Birmingham City.
The St Andrews club today announced it had reached an agreement to mutually terminate the midfielder's contract.
It leaves Clayton, 32, free to join another club in the January transfer window.
Clayton had been with Championship outfit Birmingham since the summer of 2020 and made 16 appearances last season, but has not featured in the current campaign under boss Lee Bowyer.
He had previous spells with Middlesbrough, Huddersfield, MK Dons, Peterborough and Leeds.
That followed a 36-game spell with Carlisle in the 2009/10 season when he was on loan from Manchester City.
Clayton scored three goals in that period and was part of the side under Greg Abbott that reached the 2010 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.
He also starred in an FA Cup run which took United to a third round tie at Everton, when Clayton's shot was slid home by Kevan Hurst to equalise before the Toffees won 3-1.
Birmingham said Clayton's departure was with immediate effect. "Blues would like to wish Adam all the best in his future career," their statement said.
