Carlisle United's fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United have today sacked manager Neil Cox.
The Iron, who are bottom of League Two, announced the decision today.
Cox and No2 Mark Lillis have departed the Glanford Park club, who are a point behind the second-bottom Blues.
They leave with Scunny on 11 points after 15 games and in serious danger of going out of the Football League.
Coach Tony McMahon and goalkeeping coach Paul Musselwhite have been put in caretaker charge for this weekend's FA Cup first round game against Doncaster Rovers.
In a short statement, Scunthorpe said: "Scunthorpe United has parted company with first team manager Neil Cox and assistant manager Mark Lillis. We thank them both for their efforts while with the club."
Scunthorpe have won two, drawn five and lost eight of their league games so far this season.
They drew 2-2 at Brunton Park in September, Carlisle salvaging a point with two late goals.
